On Monday, Unicaja Baloncesto was honored at Mahou San Miguel’s “Málaga, 60 Years of Shared Life” awards ceremony for its contribution to Málaga’s development, identity, and visibility.
Unicaja kicked off the season with a loss after falling to the powerful Real Madrid 89-87. In a fast-paced game, the team held the lead in the final minute, but a three-pointer by Luwawu-Cabarrot and a free throw by Campazzo tipped the scales. However, the visitors still had a last-second three-pointer by Amine Noua at the buzzer to win, though it missed. The French power forward himself and Willy Hernangómez were Unicaja’s top performers (23 PIR each).
Unicaja Baloncesto has reached an agreement to sign Matt Thomas (1.91 meters, 32 years old). The American shooting guard, who has experience in the Liga Endesa, is joining the team for the next two months, with an option to extend through the end of the season, pending a successful medical exam.
Unicaja Mijas lost to Melilla Ciudad del Deporte La Salle (54–74) in their final pre-season fixture. Javi Pérez de los Reyes’s side managed to bounce back from a difficult start and closed the gap to seven points in the final quarter, but the visitors once again imposed their physicality in the closing stages.
Unicaja Alhaurín de la Torre lost to Obradoiro U22 on the opening day of the 2026–27 Liga U season (72–80). Mikel Ereño’s side dominated for much of the match, but a poor start to the final quarter ultimately proved their undoing.
